Stress Management
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based therapy and a preferred treatment for depression, anxiety, insomnia, anger, stress and many other emotional and mental health issues. I have been particularly influenced by the teachings and works of Albert Ellis, PhD and his model of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). I received my training in REBT at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City. I work with my clients to help them identify and utilize tools for dealing with current problems and assist them in finding healthier and more effective ways of thinking, feeling and responding to the events that happen in their lives.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for those struggling with problems initiating sleep and maintaining sleep. I have received training in CBT-I from some of the leading experts in behavioral sleep medicine.
WHAT IS INSOMNIA?
Insomnia is a disorder of initiating and maintaining sleep. It is the most common sleep disorder affecting many individuals worldwide. Insomnia is also known as a 24 hour sleep disorder because individuals experience symptoms at night and negative consequences throughout the day. Individuals struggling with insomnia experience daytime fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, decreased motivation and excessive worry about sleep (to name a few). Insomnia can also exacerbate symptoms associated with mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
TREATING INSOMNIA:
Insomnia can be successfully treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, also know as CBT-I. CBT-I is a multi-component approach that is backed by scientific data. It uses proven behavioral, cognitive and educational interventions to address maladaptive behaviors and ineffective ways of thinking that disrupt and interfere with the quality of sleep. CBT-I is an empirically validated brief psychotherapy. Clients usually improve within 6 to 10 sessions. In 2016 The American College of Physicians (ACP) recommended CBT-I as the first line treatment for Adults with Chronic Insomnia.
I have received training in CBT-I from some of the leading experts in behavioral sleep medicine and I am a current member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine.
